Galt is the oldest part of Cambridge and it has the oldest pest problems. Every October the mice move in through those gaps on schedule, and sealing a rubble foundation is a longer job than a poured wall, priced honestly. Rats are more of a Galt problem than a Cambridge-wide one: the river corridor, the alleys behind the downtown restaurants, and backyards with bird feeders, compost and chickens give them food and burrowing ground. The wood porches, cornices and window frames on those houses have stayed damp in the riverside air, and carpenter ants have found them; sawdust under the porch trim is the sign. Downtown, the apartments above the storefronts on Main and Water Streets and the older walk-ups carry most of the city's bed bug and cockroach work, and one unit at a time is never the whole story. The restaurants and bars downtown need a documented program that stands up to an inspection. Wasps nest in the porch ceilings and the wall voids behind loose stone. Every job starts with an inspection and a written plan; travel inside Galt is not charged. Wildlife in an old Galt attic is a different trade.

The Galt house can be sealed too, but it is a longer job and sometimes needs a mason for a section of loose stone.
